Amit Bhar

Amit Bhar (born 1973) is a celebrated contemporary Indian artist known for his mastery of semi-realism and a unique texturing technique that blends light and shadow. Raised in West Bengal near the Hooghly River, he was deeply inspired by the rustic beauty of rural landscapes and daily village life. His work frequently explores the threshold between “waking and dreaming,” creating a meditative atmosphere that often resembles photographic collages.

He is most famous for his “Banaras” series, which captures the misty essence of the Ganga ghats, boats, and devotees with meticulous detail. Beyond cityscapes, his “Buddha” and “Ganesha” series reimagine traditional icons as 3D-style sculptures on canvas. He is also noted for his graceful portraits of women, often draped in white sarees and accompanied by natural elements like birds and flowers. While largely self-taught, he received early guidance from mentors like Shri Paresh Das and Niloy Ghosh. Today, Bhar serves as the Vice President of UNIVART & IAA/AIAP – India, a partner of UNESCO. His acclaimed artworks are held in prestigious collections across major global cities, including London, New York, and Dubai.
