Bharati Shah is a self-taught artist based in Ahmedabad, India. Having studied law at Mumbai University, Shah realised her passion for painting and reimagining the vibrancy of the world around her far outweighed her desire to be a lawyer.

Her works are populated with complex compositions of shards and lines that form networks and maps that might mimic a bird’s eye view of the land around us. Often, the principal form in the works is a looming circle, continuing along the patterns of envisioning forms encountered in the natural world. The colours too stay grounded in the earthy realm of warm, mango-like oranges or bright, twilight blues and raw, ochre yellows. A singular colour in its various shades quite frequently sets the base for the worlds of overlapping lines to create homologous landscapes.

Shah has had over 60 solo shows, along with a solo show at the Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai, and been showcased at the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS), New Delhi in 2021. Her work has also been shown at multiple art festivals internationally.
