Monica Ghule’s works have an air of magic about them. There is a vivid dream-like quality to her depictions of childhood. Her works using acrylic on canvas hark back to a simpler time for the viewer – the unbridled joy of swinging high on a tree-held swing, the innocence of childhood, laughing with a sibling, or just relishing the joy of doing nothing. To the viewer, these works say “leave your worries behind and look back at the most carefree stage of your lives.”
There is as much attention to detail for the background as is paid to the subjects in the foreground. Well loved, nostalgic motifs from childhood often frame the background – you will find leaves, butterflies, paper planes and birds serving as cheerful background in her works.
She is one of the finest emerging talents of today. She received her MFA from Nagpur University in 2013 (first in class) and has exhibited her work in several group exhibitions across India, including at the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. Walk on the path of remembrance of simple joys, lined with a talented artist’s magic.
