Vipta Kapadia is an accomplished abstract artist. Born in 1954, her decades of experience has culminated in her being a widely recognised artist, both in India and abroad. She received her Diploma in Fine Arts, Drawing and Painting from Sir J.J. School of Arts, Mumbai in 1978, before pursuing another Diploma in Interior Designing & Decoration from S.N.D.T. University, Mumbai in 1984.
Kapadia’s long term engagement with the language of landscapes creates varied layers of her enquiry into the genre. Despite most academic exposure to the genre depicting landscapes of the West, she evolved a critical consciousness regarding the same. She delves further into the the Realist, Impressionist and Abstract expressions in landscapes as informing about the transforming identity of the postcolonial world in India.
She has displayed her work in countless solo and group exhibitions over the years, including the Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, the Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi and many, many more. She has been recognised with numerous awards and accolades, and her work is included in private collections across Asia, Europe, North America and Australia.
